Volkswagen will make a competitor to the Land Rover Defender

Volkswagen is considering launching a series of electric SUV. If the user of the brand will give the project the green light, then the line of concern you may receive the competitor of the Land Rover Defender and Jeep Wrangler.

According to the publication AutoBild, the novelty will be built on an electric “cart” MEB (Modularer Elektrifizierungsbaukasten) with two variants of body: three-door (length 4.5 m) and five-door (4.85 metres). The interior is expected to use a wear-resistant plastic which can be washed with a high pressure washer. The SUV predicting the name of T-Rug market debut until 2022.

The first model of Volkswagen, which will be based on the platform MEB with built-in support for wireless charging, will be an electric hatchback I. D. movement will allow the traction motor mounted on the rear axle. The electric car will be equipped with a battery pack capacity from 48 to 111 kilowatt-hours, and its price will be about 24 thousand euros.

Later on, the MEB will build all models D. I.-the family — from the hatchback to crossover the size of a Touareg. By 2020, Volkswagen intends to sell 150 thousand electric cars a year. Two years later members of the group brand will be releasing 27 electric models.
